Massage, Nutrition, Exercise

We have four wonderful massage therapists in the office, since the muscular component of back pain must also be addressed.    You may be sure that a good massage is a far better way to treat muscular pain than muscle-relaxants and pain-killers could ever be.   It is also generally far better than the machine oriented physical therapy so prevalent within the medical model.  The combination of massage and chiropractic is the best way to treat most back pain.

In the long range, nothing is better for most back problems than exercise.   Many patients ask me ‘How can I strengthen my back?’   While poorly toned muscles often contribute to a back problem, loss of mobility and tight muscles are generally more to blame.   For this reason, stretching is generally more important than toning.   Dr. Meadow will work with you to modify your existing activities and will help you develop a simple routine to increase your flexibility and relax your muscles.

Dr. Meadow works in close conjunction with West Hartford Yoga, for which he is the assistant director and senior consultant.  Dr. Meadow has been involved with yoga - as practitioner and teacher - for over 30 years.   Yoga is a wonderful exercise for the whole body.  It systematically takes all of the joints through their full range of motion, and also lengthens and strengthens the spinal muscles.  There is no better exercise for your spinal health.

Nutritional consultation is also available.  The emphasis here is on making modifications to your diet.  Peter has experimented with many popular nutritional regimens.  He brings a moderate perspective to nutrition, placing greatest emphasis on whole foods cooking, listening to your own body's needs, and avoiding highly processed foods including simple carbohydrates.
